Disclosure: I started this channel with the expectation of total transparency. I’ve always been completely upfront with how much I make from each of my income sources, purely from the perspective of offering value and sharing what you could potentially make, as well. And most of this social media stuff is completely new to me, too, so we’re all along for the same ride and I’m figuring it out as I go along…so my experiences and learning lessons are yours, too. I’ve always found videos like this to be super inspirational, just to know this stuff if even possible.
Here’s how it works. YouTube ad revenue pays on what’s called CPM…cost per mile, which in this case, is how much you get paid per 1000 views. This means advertisers pay different rates for different channels and topics, and that means each channel has a different CPM. My channel has a very high CPM… This is why my particular ad revenue is often 10-20x higher than other channels.
Here’s the deal with social blade…when it comes to counting subscribers and views, social blade is 100% accurate. It pulls the data directly from YouTube. But when it comes to income, there’s just no way for it to estimate accurately. There are too many factors to take into consideration…like what type of channel it is, how long the videos are, what the topics are about, how many ads are in the video, and what type of ads are playing.
But remember, too, that most you tubers don’t just rely on ad revenue…they’ll end up making just as much money from sponsored videos, which could be anywhere from $500-$5000 per sponsored video, from merch, which could be anywhere from $3000-$300,000 per month depending on the channel, and from anything else they offer…like a program or how-to course…there are many, many ways that people can monetize and branch out in addition to ad revenue alone.
And that’s how much YouTuber’s make, and how much I made from a viral video…chances are, it’s higher than you expect it is.
