On the morning of Sunday, August 8, 1982, Alison was staying at her father's house.

Despite having spent very little time with Alison since the couple separated, Galvani had made arrangements the day before for Alison to spend the night of August 8 with her greatuncle, Pat Moriarty ("Moriarty"). Alison had never been to Moriarty's house alone before and pleaded with her father not to make her go. Her father told her it was time to go and they drove across town to Moriarty's. Galvani had promised to return for her on Sunday afternoon. That evening, Galvani finally called to tell Alison that he would not be there to pick her up that night. She did not have a chance to ask him why, but Moriarty.told her Galvani's car had broken down and he needed to stay with it so the mechanics didn't steal it. Meanwhile, Nancy was at a Civic Center residence hotel at 44 McAllister Street, where she had been living since leaving the women's shelter. She was planning to attend a dinner that evening, but the previous evening Galvani had called her and asked her to come pick Alison up at 8 PM on Sunday, August 8-instead of Monday, August 9. Galvani told her that he had to fly for business at midnight, and so Alison could not spend the night with him. Nancy told her friends at the residence to hold dinner for her because she would be right back; she drove away in her yellow Buick. At 8:20 PM a neighbor reported seeing Nancy's car parkedoutside 1871 Green Street-where Galvani was living. Nancy herself was never seen aliveagain. Her time of death was sometime on August 8.
