A New York state lawmaker is facing criticism for connecting the recent mass shooting in Tulsa, Oklahoma to “white supremacy,” even though the suspected shooter was Black.
Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, a Democratic state assemblywoman representing various neighborhoods in Brooklyn, said in the wake of the shooting in Tulsa Wednesday, that “white supremacy” was “clearly a factor” when considering the cause of mass shootings in the U.S.
The next day, after Hermelyn posted her Twitter comments, police identified the suspect as Michael Louis, a 45-year-old Black male.
