Former Special Agent in Charge of Counterintelligence in New York Charles McGonigal pleaded not guilty on Monday to a tangled web of charges involving Russia.

His attorney, Seth DuCharme said Monday that his team was looking forward to seeing the details, saying, "as you all know Charlie’s had a long distinguished career with the FBI.”

The charges include working for a Russian oligarch he had investigated, Oleg Deripaska, a known associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Deripaska was at the center of claims Russia worked to help Donald Trump win the 2016 presidential election with heavy sanctions later levied against him.
