Case Background: On April 9th, 2018, Border Patrol Supervisor Ronald Anthony Burgos-Aviles made a 911 call at 11:20 AM to report finding the remains of a woman and child in Father Charles McNaboe Park, northwest Laredo, Texas, while he was on duty and in uniform. Within one hour, he was the primary suspect and taken into custody. Aviles was charged with 2 counts of first-degree murder for victims Grizelda Hernandez and their son Dominic Hernandez, and is facing the death penalty.

Opening statements took place on June 26th, 2023, a much-anticipated trial that the families of the victims have been waiting for since April 2018. The trial is taking placing in Webb County's 49th Judicial Circuit Court in Texas, with Judge Joe Lopez, DA Isidro Alanis, and Aviles' defense attorneys Eduardo Pena and William Boggs. The trial is expected to last three to four weeks. Jurors will have 10 days to decide on a verdict and 5 days for sentencing.
