1:30:36Now PlayingNORTH CAROLINA: 63 year old Avantae Deven has been arrested and charged with the murders of missing London Deven (28) and Blake Deven (17) who were last seen years ago! Police found evidence in a burn barrel that both adopted children are deceased. The investigation began with a 911 call in November 2023 when one of Avantae's three other adopted children told police that they had not seen Blake in five years. When Avantae was questioned in January 2024, she claimed that Blake went to a Buddhist retreat.
After investigating the home, Fayetteville Police Sgt. Jeff Locklear said: "Avantae Deven is said to have kept them ... in small rooms, in complete darkness at times. They were given little or no food and could earn nourishment by quote 'doing paperwork.' That means they had to write hundreds of paragraphs to apologize for behavior." Authorities believe that Avantae dismembered and burned the remains of the deceased children, even asking for another member of the household to assist her.
It is believed that Blake was 10 years old when he died and London died sometime in 2019. Avantae has been charged with first-degree murder, concealment of death and kidnapping in connection with London's death, per police. She has been charged with felony child abuse in connection with Blake's disappearance. She is being held without bond.
