OPENING STATEMENTS Day One Laurie Shaver on Trial for Husband's Murder in Florida

41 year old Laurie Leigh Shaver is on trial for the murder of her husband, Michael Shaver, in November 2015, which took place at their home in Lake County, Florida. Michael Shaver's remains were found buried on their property in March 2018, buried under a concrete slab and fire pit. Law enforcement was alerted about Michael's disappearance after a friend, Scott Amatuccio contacted them requesting a wellbeing check, saying that he had not seen or heard from him since November 2015.

Laurie had told Michael's family and friend that he had quit his job and abandoned his family. Michael was last seen alive on November 7th, 2015 at a tractor show. Laurie had allegedly used his social media accounts and phone to impersonate him, instructing everyone to leave him alone/not bother him.

After many shady actions and a long investigation, Laurie Shaver was arrested on September 17th, 2020 and charged with (1) murder in the second degree with a firearm and (2) accessory after the fact to a life felony. She bonded out (posted $50 000 bail) and has been home with her two children, waiting for the trial to start. Since then, her defense strategy shifted to stating that her daughter, who was only seven years old at the time, was the one who shot her husband. She is 14 years old now and expected to testify at the trial.
