Walterboro, South Carolina: 47 year old Craig Anthony Lewis is on trial for the murder of his wife, Terry Lewis (63), who died on November 1st, 2019 after TEN MONTHS of surviving horrific burns to her body. He is charged with murder, arson and domestic violence, which caused the death of Terry Lewis. TRIGGER WARNING: This case includes domestic abuse, which could be upsetting to hear.
It is alleged that he assaulted his wife on January 16th, 2019 over two days, using personal weapons and the butt of a firearm, which caused her significant injuries. He also allegedly violently s/a'd her. She told police the story before she died and said she had told Craig that she was leaving him, and he told her "if he couldn’t have her he would see to it no one else did either!"
Police allege that Craig threw 'burning fabric' at her, and then told them that she accidentally burned herself while trying to light a wood-burning stove. When deputies went to Craig and Terry's home, he was hosing down the driveway and then attacked three deputies; one suffered a shoulder injury, another a sprained wrist and the third a cut hand!
Craig was indicted on murder charges in March 2020, but he was already out on bond with an ankle monitor and has been out on bond since February 26th, 2019. He has retained a prominent local attorney and state senator, Margie Bright Matthews, as his defense attorney. Opening statements start on November 5th, 2024.
