52:04Now PlayingThe Menendez brothers case is one of the most notorious and widely discussed legal cases in American criminal history. In today's episode, we welcome special guest Josh Ritter, an award-winning trial attorney, former prosecutor and legal analyst to discuss the Menendez brothers case with us.
Case Background: On August 20th, 1989 Lyle and Erik Menendez murdered their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez in their Beverly Hills mansion. They went on trial in 1993, which resulted in a mistrial being declared after a hung jury, and then went on trial again in 1996, where there were convicted of the first degree murder of their parents and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. A Netflix series (Monsters, the Lyle and Erik Menendez Story) and a Netflix documentary have sparked new conversations about the case, and the district attorney is considering resentencing the brothers, which could mean that they will be released.
