In March 2015, Denise Huskins was kidnapped from her boyfriend, Aaron Quinn's home in Vallejo, California. The couple was drugged, bound, and blindfolded by an intruder who claimed to be part of a group collecting debts. Denise was abducted, held for ransom, and s/and over a period of two days before being released in Huntington Beach, near her family's home.

Initially, the Vallejo Police Department, suspecting a hoax similar to the plot of the book and film "Gone Girl," accused Denise and Aaron of staging the kidnapping. They were publicly vilified, with police suggesting the event was orchestrated, and no evidence supported their claims of abduction at first.

However, the case took a turn when Matthew Muller, a disbarred Harvard-educated attorney and former Marine, was linked to the crime through evidence from another home invasion in June 2015. Muller was eventually charged and pleaded guilty to kidnapping, leading to a 40-year sentence in federal prison. He also faced additional state charges such as rape, burglary, and robbery.

The ordeal didn't end with Muller's conviction; Denise and Aaron faced significant emotional distress and public scrutiny. They sued the City of Vallejo for defamation, false arrest, and emotional distress, eventually settling out of court for $2.5 million in 2018. The case was later highlighted in the Netflix docuseries "American Nightmare," which detailed the mishandling by law enforcement, the couple's experiences, and the eventual vindication of Denise and Aaron.

Today, a press conference will discuss the new charges that Matthew Muller faces. The investigation is ongoing and the case has been filed with the Contra Costa DA’s Office. Anyone with any information on this case is asked to contact the Investigation Division at (925) 313-2600.
