DAY FIVE:: Meagan Jackson, 40, is on trial in Horry County, South Carolina, for the murder of Gregory Vincent Rice, 46, the father of her four children, in October 2020. The trial began with jury selection on June 9, 2025, and opening statements on June 10, 2025. She faces charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and four counts of unlawful neglect of a child.

Gregory Rice was last seen alive on October 2, 2020. Jackson reported him missing on October 5, 2020. His body was discovered on November 8, 2020, in the Little Pee Dee River near Pitts Landing off Highway 378, at the Horry/Marion County line. Rice was wrapped in a tarp, secured with zip ties, weighed down by a cinder block, and had been shot multiple times. Meagan and Gregory were in a long-term relationship, sharing four children, but had separated in 2019. At the time of the murder, Meagan was involved in an affair with Christopher Dontell, a former Horry County deputy coroner. Prosecutors allege she killed Gregory, possibly due to custody disputes or to conceal her affair with Dontell. Jackson reportedly told Dontell she was pregnant with his child, raising fears their affair would be exposed, though no pregnancy was confirmed. Christopher Dontell, initially charged with murder, pleaded guilty on December 4, 2024, to accessory after the fact and criminal conspiracy to commit murder. In his plea deal, murder and kidnapping charges were dropped, and he agreed to testify against Jackson; he faces up to 20 years in prison, with sentencing pending the conclusion of Meagan's trial .
