YouTube Description
as posted by the channelLet's discuss the latest updates in the LISK (Long Island Serial Killer) case. Rex Heuermann, the suspected Long Island serial killer, has been charged with the murders of seven women linked to the Gilgo Beach killings. The investigation gained momentum in December 2010 with the discovery of the "Gilgo Four"—Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, and Melissa Barthelemy—along Ocean Parkway. Additional remains, including Sandra Costilla (1993), Jessica Taylor (2003, with more in 2011), and Valerie Mack (2000, with more in 2011), were later tied to the case. The 1997 find of "Peaches" (Tanya Denise Jackson) and her daughter "Baby Doe" (Tatiana Marie Dykes) in 2011, along with "Asian Doe" (2011), remain under investigation with no charges yet. Shannan Gilbert’s disappearance on May 1, 2010, triggered the search.
A key development came on September 3, 2025, when Judge Timothy Mazzei ruled nuclear DNA from rootless hairs admissible after a Frye hearing. Experts Dr. Kelley Harris, Dr. Nicole Novroski, and Dr. Richard Green testified that whole genome sequencing and SNP analysis are reliable, supported by peer-reviewed studies, despite defense challenges from Nathaniel Adams on IBDGem software validation. This evidence may link Heuermann’s family to the crimes. The next hearing is set for September 23, 2025.
In September 2023, a Jones Beach discovery of buried purses, clothing, and a blood-stained glove near where Heuermann worked in the 1980s raised suspicions of a disposal site, with forensic tests pending.
