The DNC's internal autopsy report on the 2024 election was leaked to CNN, and DNC chair Ken Martin immediately disavowed it, claiming it wasn't finished. Hawk reacts to the key findings from the 200-page report that Democrats clearly didn't want the public to read.
The most damning conclusion: Republicans are simply better at politics. The report portrays the GOP as relentless, data-driven, and always on message, while Democrats are described as too cautious, too slow, and more focused on winning arguments than winning elections. Republicans don't just define themselves — they define Democrats, and they do it constantly.
One of the sharpest findings is that the GOP learned more from Barack Obama's campaign model than Democrats did, using data, social media, and grassroots energy to power their 2024 victory.
The report is notably silent on some of the biggest questions: Biden's decision to run again, the impact of the war in Gaza, and Kamala Harris inheriting the ticket without a primary. It also avoids any mention of Harris skipping Joe Rogan's podcast, a decision many viewed as a critical miscalculation.
Hawk points to Trump's transgender attack ad as a case study in the Democrats' failure to respond. The ad ran nationally during college football, Harris's campaign said nothing, and multiple Democratic candidates running for other offices found effective responses anyway.
The report calls for a fundamental rethinking of the party's approach, a shift away from identity politics toward the working class and middle class. Since 2008, Democrats have alternated between stagnation and regression, losing ground at every level while ignoring state parties, local candidates, and the voters who once formed their base.
