Hawk has never hidden his contempt for James Comey or John Bolton. He's been vocal about Comey's role in the 2016 election and Bolton's warmongering neocon record. And he has consistently spoken out against any president using the DOJ, the FBI, or the Attorney General as a political weapon, regardless of party.
That principle gets tested when the target is someone you dislike. When Trump's DOJ issued a subpoena to Hassan Piker, some left-leaning creators celebrated it, and some even called for the FBI to go after other Black leftist creators they disagreed with politically.
Hawk draws a hard line. Approving of Trump and Todd Blanch and Kash Patel going after political opponents because you personally dislike the target is not a nuanced position. It is the absence of principles entirely.
When people show you who they are, believe them.
