A federal judge appointed by Donald Trump has allowed Trump's latest executive order restricting mail-in ballots to remain in place, at least for now. Hawk breaks down why the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, which has repeatedly pushed back on Trump's overreach on immigration, tariffs, and voting rights, is the next and likely friendlier battlefield for this fight.
The executive order directs DHS, the Social Security Administration, and the U.S. Postal Service to compile a master list of eligible voters, with mail-in ballots only delivered to those on that list. The obvious concern: that list can be manipulated. A nearly identical order from 2025 was already halted by a Washington state court.
Hawk points out that mail-in voting restrictions don't target Democrats alone. Tens of millions of Republican voters rely on mail-in ballots. Stephen Miller, widely reported to be the author of most Trump executive orders, built his fortune through a nonprofit grifting operation before moving into military housing after neighbors protested outside his $6.5 million home.
With the 2026 midterms five months out, Hawk doesn't see this order taking effect in time, but warns that a radicalized and partisan Supreme Court makes any prediction unreliable.
