A federal judge in Chicago dismissed all charges against six anti-ICE protesters known as the Broadview Six after discovering that Trump's Department of Justice prosecutors committed serious prosecutorial misconduct before a grand jury. The case centered on protests outside the Broadview Detention Facility, and included congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh among the defendants.
Judge April Perry reviewed unredacted grand jury transcripts and found that DOJ prosecutors vouched for evidence they never presented, dismissed grand jurors who voted against indictment, and held private conversations with grand jurors outside the grand jury room. US Attorney Andrew Bros acknowledged his subordinates' conduct but called it inadvertent.
The Broadview Six case is not isolated. Across the country, grand juries have repeatedly refused to indict in politically driven cases brought by Pam Bondi and Todd Blanche's DOJ, including cases involving Democratic lawmakers and protesters in multiple cities. Federal judges have admonished DOJ prosecutors for misconduct in several of these cases.
Over 10,000 attorneys have left or been fired from the federal government in the last 16 months. The Trump administration is now recruiting replacements on Twitter, filling the DOJ with political loyalists rather than career prosecutors committed to the rule of law.
