Donald Trump has said explicitly that birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment only applied to the generation of people born to formerly enslaved parents. The logical endpoint of that position is stripping every Black American of United States citizenship. Hawk draws a direct line between that goal and Trump's admiration for Benjamin Netanyahu, arguing that what Trump and Steven Miller want is an apartheid system that treats Black Americans the way Israel treats Palestinians within its own borders.
Pete Hegseth has fired tens of thousands of Black federal workers, the majority of them Black women, and is systematically removing Black service members from the historical record of the United States military. Promotion lists are being purged. None of it is being hidden.
The Supreme Court eradicated the Voting Rights Act and declared the disenfranchisement of 26 million Black Americans in the South was not race based. Confederate state legislatures moved to eliminate Black representation in the House of Representatives within days of that decision coming down.
Racism is no longer on the edges. It is official government policy.
