JD Vance made the media rounds this week, defending the Trump administration's Iran deal against pushback from members of Netanyahu's government, including inflammatory rhetoric from Israeli officials calling for the destruction of Lebanon. In doing so, Vance stated plainly that the United States is the only ally Israel has left in the world. Hawk traces how Israel arrived at that point of isolation in just two and a half years.
Polling on the Israeli government inside the United States has collapsed, with disapproval reaching 80 percent among Democrats overall and 90 percent among Democratic voters under 49. AIPAC has poured millions into primary races to defend that political position, including a reported two million dollar effort to defeat New Jersey Democrat Tom Malinowski after he suggested conditioning aid to Israel, a move Hawk frames as a warning shot to other Democratic lawmakers. Republican Thomas Massie faced similar spending against his primary campaign.
Hawk connects this to the broader collapse of international sympathy following the war in Gaza, settler violence in the West Bank, and the recent war with Iran, which left Iran in control of the Strait of Hormuz and arguably stronger than before the conflict began. The video closes by noting that several prominent left-leaning creators who stayed silent on Gaza for over two years are only now beginning to criticize Netanyahu's government, a shift Hawk attributes to changing political winds rather than coincidence.
