Following the June 23rd New York City Democratic primaries in which three Zohran Mamdani and DSA-backed candidates defeated AIPAC-aligned establishment picks in the 7th, 10th, and 13th congressional districts, Hawk reads through the wave of commentary attributing the losses to antisemitism. The reaction came from MSNBC columnist Michael Cohen, gun control activist Fred Guttenberg, commentator Jamie Metzl, and others, many of whom explicitly called the winning voters antisemites or accused them of Jew hatred, despite all three districts having among the largest Jewish populations of any congressional districts in the country.
Hawk points out that labeling your own voting base as antisemites is not a persuasion strategy, and that the conflation of Zionism with Judaism is deliberate, allowing criticism of Israeli government policy to be reframed as religious hatred. He responds to Hakeem Jeffries' statement that Mamdani has work to do with members of Congress, and to Kirsten Gillibrand's repeated description of Mamdani as a jihadist on a PBS podcast after he won his own primary.
In the second half of the video, Hawk reads directly from the Democratic Socialists of America website, walking through their platform on Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, publicly owned utilities, working-class foreign policy, and democratic ownership of key economic sectors. He finds the platform largely reasonable and notes that the people most opposed to it are the same corporate donor class that currently owns both parties.
