The Department of Justice, through Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward, told a federal judge on July 2nd that it would not comply with a court order requiring production of additional Epstein Files documents. The DOJ asked the judge to either extend the deadline by 60 days or relieve them of the obligation entirely.
Independent journalist and trial attorney Katie Phang filed the original lawsuit against Todd Blanche under the Epstein Files Transparency Act via the Administrative Procedure Act. Her motion for injunction covered five areas: redacted sender and recipient names in emails, co-conspirator names in DOJ documents, underlying FBI interview notes that form the basis for FD-302 reports, foreign language materials that were never reviewed at all, and the absence of a required redaction log. Judge Emmett Sullivan's June 25th memo and order found the DOJ had conceded violations of the Act by failing to respond to key arguments in Katie Phang's pleadings.
Hawk, a 28-year trial attorney, addresses what it means when DOJ lawyers routinely misrepresent things to federal judges, why those judges are now openly noting the DOJ's diminished credibility in written orders, and what comes next after the holiday weekend.
