The New York Post reported Thursday, with Mediaite picking it up, that Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego acknowledged previous sexual relationships with two House staffers, with a third source confirming one of them. The reporting places the relationships during his House tenure between 2015 and 2025, and indicates they are believed to predate his 2019 marriage. Gallego did not directly comment on them.
The timing is the story. The report landed shortly after the Senate Ethics Committee dismissed a misconduct complaint filed against Gallego by Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna. Gallego had called those accusations right-wing conspiracies peddled by Luna and the White House and asked for an apology. Luna responded publicly that they were not conspiracy theories, and has claimed on social media to have heard from women alleging inappropriate conduct, claims that are her own and are not part of the Post's reporting.
Hawk walks through what the sources describe, including a power imbalance between lawmakers and aides and one staffer reportedly much younger, notes Gallego's friendship with Eric Swalwell during those years, and keeps the line clear between what has been reported, what has been dismissed, and what remains an unproven allegation from a political opponent.
