Hawk flags a story he picked up from other creators on TikTok, one he says deserves far more attention. Flock Safety license plate readers have already drawn a backlash, with pages across social media dedicated to disabling them and reports of dozens of police officers misusing Flock databases to track ex-partners and strangers. Now, Hawk argues, two companies are aiming to take that model much further.
The heart of the video is a promotional clip for a collaboration between Axon and Ubicquia. In it, Ubicquia describes turning ordinary street lights into surveillance tools, citing the roughly 60 million street lights in the US and 450 million worldwide, and a partnership with Axon to add video and license plate reading to police platforms at scale. Hawk does the math out loud: 60 million camera-equipped poles would be roughly one device for every five Americans.
His argument is about privacy and consent. He questions who is paying for this buildout, why it is being rolled out quietly, and whether framing it as public safety holds up given the documented abuses of existing systems. He urges viewers to research Axon and Ubicquia themselves and treat privacy as something worth defending before the infrastructure is already in the ground.
