The Senate voted to confirm Todd Blanche as Attorney General of the United States while an open disciplinary investigation sits against him at the New York State Bar. That referral came from a federal judge in Florida, over Donald Trump's lawsuit against the IRS and the Treasury Department and the settlement announced in May.
The ruling landed two or three days before Blanche's first Senate Judiciary confirmation hearing. In it, the judge found that the suit had been filed for an improper and deceptive purpose, that the settlement was fraudulent and unlawful, and that Blanche, Trump, and Trump's attorneys had perpetrated a fraud on the court. Stanley Woodward signed for the Justice Department. Blanche signed the immunity addendum.
Hawk lays out how state bar jurisdiction works and why a fraud on the court finding is the most serious professional accusation an attorney can face. It is not a withheld document. It is intentional deception of a federal judge, and it carries suspension and disbarment exposure.
