Something different, recorded around a quarter to one in the morning after an hour and a half of Slayer at a volume his phone had opinions about. Hawk got thinking about where all of this started.

Third grade, 1976, Elementary School in Ohio. Obsessed with dinosaurs and rockets, Hawk had already talked his first grade teacher into letting him sit at the back and build things as long as he stayed quiet. Then an afternoon at a friend's house, an older brother's record collection they were not supposed to touch, and Kiss coming out of the speakers for the first time.

Piano lessons didn't take. The violin met an unfortunate end involving a mattress and some enthusiastic jumping. First drum at eight and a full kit at ten, and Hawk already knew how to play before he ever sat down at one.

Fifty years later he is playing a Halloween set on Haight Street in San Francisco, with his band cosplayingThe Cars.
