Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense, reportedly removed four women officers from the military promotions list, two of them Black women, with no disciplinary actions against any of them to justify the decision. The press has yet to ask him directly whether racism and misogyny drove that call, or whether any white male officers in similar standing were treated the same way.
Hegseth has spent 14 months making his worldview clear: anti-DEI, anti-woke, opposed to the presence of women and Black service members in any visible role. He has scrubbed photographs of Black and female soldiers, officers, and astronauts from defense facilities around the world. His vision for the United States military is narrow, discriminatory, and now shaping real personnel decisions.
Beyond the Pentagon's personnel politics, Hegseth has been hosting spiritual rallies inside the Defense Department. A Nashville pastor he invited to speak publicly stated he hopes God kills Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talerico, a deeply devout Christian, for supporting LGBTQ equality, women's autonomy, immigrant dignity, and racial justice.
Hegseth himself carries rape allegations he settled with a non-disclosure agreement. Donald Trump, his boss, was found by a judge to have met the legal definition of rape in the E. Jean Carroll case. Together they are managing a war with Iran that has closed the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway that was open and functioning five weeks before the conflict began.
