Bari Weiss attempted to censor a 60 Minutes segment about CECOT Prison by pulling it from the broadcast right before it aired on Sunday night. This decision backfired spectacularly, demonstrating a textbook case of the Streisand Effect. The Streisand Effect originated when Barbara Streisand publicly demanded people stop photographing her Malibu house, which only caused tabloids to rent helicopters and publish even more photos. The same principle applied when Bari Weiss removed the CECOT Prison segment from 60 Minutes.
The Canadian version of 60 Minutes included the CECOT segment in their broadcast, and it has since been downloaded and shared worldwide, receiving far more views than it would have gotten during a normal Sunday night 60 Minutes airing. Hawk explains how Bari Weiss, whose college degree is in history rather than journalism, lacks experience in TV broadcast news journalism or reporting. She was installed by David Ellison and Larry Ellison to function as a MAGA ideologue and Zionist propagandist rather than an actual journalist.
The decision to pull the CECOT Prison segment was made for the benefit of the Trump administration. While Bari Weiss accomplished her goal as a propagandist, she did so in an incompetent manner that drew massive attention to the very content she wanted suppressed. The censorship attempt created a journalism controversy that made headlines and turned the CECOT Prison story into international news. What would have been a story in the news cycle for perhaps a day has now become a viral sensation shared around the world.
