Former counterterrorism director Joe Kent resigned in protest over the Iran War and the handling of the investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Since leaving, Kent has appeared on podcasts with Megyn Kelly and Tucker Carlson, claiming he encountered evidence suggesting foreign governments or outside entities may have been involved in Charlie Kirk's killing — and that the FBI and DOJ blocked him from pursuing those leads.
The accused shooter, Tyler Robinson, is being prosecuted by the very agencies Kent says obstructed his investigation. Hawk lays out why this is a legal disaster in the making. Kent is a decorated 11-tour combat veteran whose own wife was killed in a terrorist attack in Syria. His credibility with a jury would be extraordinary. If called to the stand, he can point directly at the prosecution table and tell jurors that those same prosecutors prevented a sitting counterterrorism director from following up on evidence pointing away from Robinson.
The burden of proof in a criminal case is proof beyond a reasonable doubt — the highest legal standard that exists. Joe Kent does not need to name names or prove a conspiracy. He only needs to plant doubt. And given his background, his Senate-confirmed position, and his access to classified intelligence, that reasonable doubt would be almost impossible for any jury to ignore.
Pam Bondi and Kash Patel's handling of this case may have made a conviction nearly impossible.
