ICE is doubling in size while detainees face violence and death in custody. Trump is pushing to end mail-in ballots while Republican-controlled states close polling locations in Democratic strongholds. The Cook Report recently shifted 18 House races to lean Democrat, and with candidates like Mary Peltola entering the Alaska Senate race, Democrats have a viable path to retaking Congress. But that's exactly why Trump won't allow normal midterm elections.
What happens when the DOJ, led by Pam Bondi, opens criminal investigations into Democratic candidates for those 18 House seats? What happens when Cash Patel and DHS deploy thousands of ICE agents to polling places in Black and brown neighborhoods on election day? And even if Democrats win on November 3rd, there are still 50 days before the new Congress is seated in January 2027. What will Trump and Mike Johnson do during that lame duck period?
The surveillance state is already here. Companies like Palantir have received billions from DHS and ICE to monitor American citizens. The administration has labeled the left as domestic terrorists. Republicans are redistricting and restricting ballot access across red states. Corporate AIPAC Democrats in leadership positions continue with business as usual while the threat grows. Waiting 340 days for midterms that may not happen normally isn't a strategy, it's denial.
