U.S. military operations targeting boats off the coast of Venezuela have escalated into what Hawk identifies as clear violations of international law and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. These attacks, conducted in international waters against fishing vessels and other boats, lack any legal justification. Congress has not declared war against Venezuela, and no authorized use of military force covers these operations against drug traffickers or Venezuelan targets.
Pete Hegseth reportedly gave direct orders to Seal Team Six for the initial strike, and when survivors clung to wreckage, ordered a second attack to kill all remaining individuals. These survivors were unarmed, presumably civilian, and not identified as enemy combatants. The directive to leave no survivors constitutes murder under any legal framework.
Approximately 25 such attacks have killed over 80 people. None of these individuals were charged with crimes beforehand, identified by name, or credibly linked to cartels, gangs, or smuggling operations. The military operations serve no purpose beyond projecting strength for political optics.
The situation mirrors Russia's actions against Ukraine, representing an invasion and violation of a sovereign nation without legal justification. These are war crimes and international crimes.
Meanwhile, USAID shutdowns earlier this year have contributed to 600,000 deaths among the world's poorest populations, including 400,000 children. The contrast between these humanitarian costs and political priorities raises serious questions about current U.S. policy direction.
