Nick Shirley posted a video about Somali daycare fraud in Minneapolis that he claimed ended Tim Walz's third term campaign for Minnesota governor. The reality is far darker. That video directly triggered the Trump administration to surge 2,000 additional ICE agents into Minneapolis, bringing the total to over 2,200 agents, more than the city's entire police force. Another 1,000 ICE agents are now being deployed to Minneapolis. This massive ICE presence led to the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a Minneapolis mother killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross. She was shot three times in the head on her own street after dropping her child at school, her dog in the back seat and stuffed animals for her kids in the glove box.
The video examines how Nick Shirley, a 23-year-old content creator with no journalism experience, created rage bait targeting Somali people in a Democratic city that Trump lost in 2016, 2020, and 2024. Whether intentionally dishonest or incompetently deceptive, the Somali daycare fraud video had deadly real-world consequences. Tim Walz dropped out of the governor race, but Renee Nicole Good lost her life.
