Jared Kushner invited Jeffrey Epstein to a 2013 party celebrating the New York Observer's 25th anniversary, with Donald Trump and Harvey Weinstein on the guest list. The event honored those who shaped New York culture, media, and finance. Epstein had already served time for child sex crimes when he received the invitation. Harvey Weinstein, now serving 16 years for rape, attended alongside Trump and his daughter Ivanka. Matt Lauer, fired in 2017 for inappropriate sexual behavior, was also invited. The guest list reveals connections between powerful figures in New York politics, media, and entertainment.
Emails released by the House Oversight Committee show Epstein boasting about giving Trump his girlfriend in 1993 and claiming to know how dirty Trump is. Trump later claimed he had a falling out with Epstein 15 years before his 2019 arrest, contradicting his 2002 statement calling Epstein a terrific guy who likes beautiful women. Alan Dershowitz, who defended Epstein in 2006, famously insisted he kept his underpants on during a massage at one of Epstein's properties. The 2013 party included Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Senator Cory Booker, Katie Couric, Katie Holmes, and Blake Lively. Former New York Observer editor Ken Kurson, pardoned by Trump in 2021 after cyberstalking charges, was also present.
The evening celebrated New York's elite while gathering individuals whose reputations would later collapse amid serious criminal allegations and convictions.
