Kash Patel's appearance on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo has drawn immediate comparisons to the moment that unraveled Pam Bondi's tenure as Attorney General. Fourteen months ago, Bondi went on Fox News and claimed the Epstein client list was on her desk ready for release. That statement snowballed and she lost her job. Now Patel finds himself in a strikingly similar position.
Following a well-sourced Atlantic article citing two dozen sources and detailing Patel's alleged excessive drinking in public and its impact on his duties as FBI Director, Patel sat down with Bartiromo and declared that arrests are imminent over the alleged rigging of the 2020 election. He stated the FBI has everything it needs and is working with the DOJ and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Donald Trump's former criminal defense attorney who led Trump's Manhattan trial resulting in 34 felony convictions.
The problem: no grand jury has indicted anyone for stealing the 2020 election. Rudy Giuliani filed 61 federal lawsuits and lost 60 of them for lack of evidence. Trump's own Attorney General Bill Barr testified before the January 6th Committee that all evidence brought to him of a stolen election was baseless. Pat Cipollone and White House counsel also told Trump directly there was no evidence.
Federal arrests require either a witnessed crime, a signed arrest warrant, or a grand jury indictment. Without evidence, none of those exist. Patel has made a very public promise he may not be able to keep, and Trump, who famously despises public drinking and has been frustrated by the failure to prosecute political enemies like James Comey, Letitia James, Adam Schiff and Jack Smith, is watching closely.
