Sunday Night Football delivered an incredible game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, with Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson putting on a show for the ages. But the real adventure came after the game ended. Hawk planned a simple three-hour drive from Marin County back to his new mountain cabin in the Sierras, but Mother Nature had other plans. The journey started with king tides and torrential rainstorms flooding everything in Marin County. Once the weather cleared, Hawk loaded up his car and headed to the mountains.
What began as partly cloudy conditions quickly turned into relentless rain, then evolved into a full-blown snowstorm. The Sierras received between 22 to 25 inches of snow in just four hours. Even with tire chains on his front-wheel drive car, Hawk couldn't make it up the final uphill stretch to his cabin, less than a mile and a half from home. The residential roads hadn't been plowed yet, forcing him to turn around and find a hotel room two towns down the mountain. From underwater roads to impassable snow-covered mountain roads, this Sunday was a masterclass in California weather extremes. The frontwheel drive car won't cut it anymore.
Time to upgrade to an all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive SUV for Sierra mountain living. The tire chains did their job, but without plowed roads and proper four-wheel drive, getting home became impossible. Tomorrow brings another attempt to reach the cabin, hopefully with better road conditions.
