The hypocrisy of Trump and his supporters regarding police use of deadly force becomes crystal clear when examining their defense of ICE officer Jonathan Ross shooting Renee Good compared to their outrage over January 6th. Trump supporters, JD Vance, and Kristi Noem argue that officers can use deadly force when they believe their life is in danger. Applying this same logic to January 6th at the Capitol means police would have been justified in killing thousands of Trump supporters who were violently attacking officers, beating them with flags, and causing severe injuries like Officer Michael Fanone's heart attack after being tasered in the neck.
The MAGA base holds up Ashley Babbitt as a patriot and martyr while simultaneously defending the killing of immigrants and protesters under the same deadly force standards they reject for themselves. This double standard reveals a core belief: Trump supporters should be protected by the law but not bound by it, while everyone else should be bound by the law but not protected by it. The Trump administration is weaponizing law enforcement against immigrants, political opponents, and protesters while claiming January 6th rioters were peaceful patriots. Kristi Noem and JD Vance cannot have it both ways on deadly force. Either police shooting at the Capitol was justified under their own standards, or the ICE shooting of Renee Good was murder. The hypocrisy exposes how MAGA views violence and accountability differently depending on who is being held responsible.
