The bots and trolls are flooding comment sections with misinformation about the Jonathan Ross shooting, making absurd claims that he won't be indicted or that state jurisdiction somehow doesn't apply to criminal cases. This phenomenon mirrors what happened during COVID when people with zero knowledge of medicine, immunology, or vaccines claimed expertise over actual doctors and scientists. The same pattern emerged after the Charlie Kirk shooting and continues with January 6th denialism and stolen election conspiracies.
America faces a tsunami of people who are aggressively and proudly stupid, forming an anti-intellectual movement that thrives on ignorance. The Republican base demonstrates this through their gullibility and susceptibility to manipulation, combined with the Dunning Kruger Effect where individuals with no expertise believe they know more than PhD-level experts. Many bot accounts and troll comments originate from foreign-operated bot farms designed specifically to provoke anger and engagement from rational observers.
The solution is simple: don't engage with bots and trolls in comment sections. These accounts want engagement and attention. Instead, block troll accounts and bot profiles when encountered. There's no obligation to argue with people who demonstrate willful ignorance about basic facts like how state jurisdiction works in criminal cases. The anti-intellectual movement feeds on conflict and engagement, so the best response is to starve it of attention by blocking and moving on rather than wasting energy on those suffering from Dunning Kruger Effect who spend their time spreading misinformation.
