On a beautiful Sunday morning, Hawk reflects on a segment from Ali Velshi's MSNBC program featuring a report from an international organization that tracks and categorizes every nation on earth as to whether it still qualifies as a liberal democracy. The report's conclusion: the United States no longer meets that standard.
According to the data, America only achieved liberal democracy status in 1965 with the passage of the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act - moments that finally extended full political representation to Black Americans. The chart showed decades of steady progress, until Donald Trump's reelection sent that ranking crashing back to the 1965 baseline.
Sixty years of democratic progress, reversed in one year.
Hawk connects this democratic backsliding to the broader agenda being carried out by Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, and Mark Wayne Mullin through ICE and DHS - policies Hawk describes as an unconstitutional ethnic cleansing targeting Hispanic and Latino communities. With Kristi Noem out and Mullin now stepping in, the administration's direction remains unchanged.
