The United States is now entangled in a war with Iran that experts warned would not end quickly, and the consequences are mounting by the day. The Strait of Hormuz has been closed for two weeks, cutting off 20% of the world's oil and natural gas supply and pushing the global economy toward recession. Trump has been calling on NATO allies and even China to help reopen the strait, the same allies he spent years alienating with tariffs and threats to abandon the NATO treaty.
Russia is actively sharing satellite imagery and upgraded Shahed drone technology with Iran, helping Iranian forces more effectively target US military assets in the region. While Trump continues his deference to Vladimir Putin, the US has eased sanctions on Russian oil sales to compensate for the Hormuz closure, inadvertently funneling an estimated $150 million per day into Russia's war economy in Ukraine.
Iran's response has been deliberate and decentralized, striking Gulf civilian infrastructure including airports, hotels, and energy facilities. Real estate values in Dubai have reportedly dropped 30%. Iran still holds roughly 72,000 unused Shahed drones and hypersonic ballistic missiles largely untouched.
A senior Iranian official stated the regime intends to sustain this conflict through the 2026 midterm elections. Israel has mobilized 450,000 reservists, is pushing into Lebanon, and Israeli military leaders are planning operations through April 2027. The resignation letter of the counterterrorism director, a handpicked MAGA appointee, acknowledged the US was deceived into entering this war.
