Trump's latest Pennsylvania rally was meant to address economic concerns and affordability but quickly descended into familiar territory. With 1.1 million jobs lost this year and unemployment numbers approaching Great Depression levels, Trump claimed Americans saved, paychecks are bigger, and the economy is the greatest in history. The crowd chanted four more years despite constitutional term limits while Trump called tariffs his favorite word and mocked concerns about affordability as a Democratic hoax.
The rally took dark turns with vicious attacks on Ilhan Omar, including false claims about her immigration status and references to her turban, prompting send her back chants from the audience. Trump pushed replacement theory rhetoric, questioning why America accepts immigrants from what he called hole countries instead of Norway and Sweden. He praised deals with Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar while claiming China purchases trillions in soybeans and energy prices have dropped dramatically.
Throughout the speech Trump meandered between topics, referenced the weave, attacked Joe Biden repeatedly, called media fake news, and had crowds booing journalists. He claimed to have won three elections, counting 2020 as a victory, and insisted America is respected worldwide again. Chief of staff Susie Wiles allegedly told him only he can win Republican midterm elections. Recent polling shows just 36% approve of Trump's economic handling while 62% blame him for current economic conditions according to Fox News surveys.
CBS News reports Americans increasingly hold Trump responsible for rising costs and affordability struggles. The affordability tour generated more midterm campaign material for Democrats than solutions for economic anxiety.
