Turning Point USA Conference Becomes Battleground Between Ben Shapiro and Tucker Carlson

The Turning Point USA year-end conference in Phoenix, Arizona has transformed into a memorial event following the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10th. The massive arena gathering features a recreation of the outdoor tent structure where Kirk was killed, with attendees lining up to photograph themselves next to a large portrait of the conservative figure. Charlie Kirk was a controversial voice in right-wing politics, known for campus debates with college students and strong positions on various social issues.

The conference has become a flashpoint for internal conflict within conservative media circles. Ben Shapiro delivered a speech calling out Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens by name, accusing them of being frauds and grifters who are hijacking the movement with conspiracy theories about Kirk's death. Candace Owens, who commands six million YouTube followers, has promoted theories involving France and Israel in Kirk's assassination. She met privately with Charlie Kirk's widow Erica Kirk for four and a half hours, sharing what she called intel about the killing.

Tucker Carlson responded to Shapiro's criticism with his characteristic dismissive tone, claiming he watched the speech and found it amusing. Carlson invoked Kirk's legacy of good faith debate to defend his approach of just asking questions. The tension escalated over Carlson's recent two-hour interview with Nick Fuentes, an avowedly anti-semitic figure who led the groper movement against Kirk for years over his support of Israel. Fuentes sent followers to harass Kirk at outdoor debate events, viewing him as too pro-Israel. Ben Shapiro, who is Jewish and wore a yarmulke during his speech, directly addressed Carlson's platforming of Fuentes and his anti-semitism. The conference reveals deep fractures within Turning Point USA and conservative media over conspiracy theories, anti-semitism, and the direction of right-wing youth movements.
