In November 1532, Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro arrived in the Incan Empire, where the ruling emperor, Atahualpa, saw little threat in the small group of foreigners. The Incas valued their golden temples for their spiritual significance, but the Spaniards, driven by greed, sought wealth and power.
