What's the REAL Difference Between Faith and Spirituality for You?

A story in Mark 2:1-12 and Luke 5:17-26 describes an event where several friends were desperate to get their companion to Jesus. They knew that only Jesus could intervene and restore his life. They would stop at nothing, and no inconvenience or social decorum mattered. This man’s life had been ruined by tragedy. Does Jesus want us to have the same perspective, and does Jesus really give us do-overs?

Read the story of the paralytic who is lowered through the roof to meet Jesus.

Matthew 9:1-8 Mark 2:1-12 Luke 5:17-26

What events happened just before this story takes place?

Who is around Jesus during this moment and what do you think were their expectations and thoughts about him?

These men, in partnership with the paralyzed companion, were willing to do socially inappropriate things to get their friend to Jesus. What kind of men do you think they were?

What kind of man do you think the paralytic was, what were his greatest concerns?

Jesus says, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” The word that Jesus used for son is the Greek word - TEKNON. It can mean, little child, or my son, or my boy. It can be used as a term of endearment. Does that little added word give deeper meaning to this event? How?

What do you think the religious leaders were thinking during this event? What were they thinking after this event? Do you think they were convinced Jesus was from God after seeing a miracle? What would you have thought or felt if you were there?

Penn Jillette of Penn and Teller had a profound statement: “How much do you have to HATE somebody to believe everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?” What are your thoughts about this?
