In this video Heimler takes you through Unit 3 Topic 6 of the AP U.S. History curriculum which is set in period 3 (1754-1800).
The stunning victory of the Patriot cause in overthrowing British rule led to the influence of its ideals both in America and across the world.
In America, slavery came under fire with all the talk of liberty and freedom in the Declaration of Independence. Additionally, many state legislatures encouraged greater democracy by abolishing titles of nobility and the expansion of suffrage.
Across the world, American revolutionary ideals inspired the French Revolution in 1789. And once the enslaved population in the French colony of Haiti heard the calls for "liberty, equality, fraternity" ringing in the streets of France, they decided that sounded pretty nice. And so we get the Haitian Revolution which was the first successful slave rebellion in the western hemisphere. Additionally, America's revolutionary ideals inspired independence movements in Latin American countries as well.
