In this video Heimler takes you through Unit 9 Topic 4 of the AP U.S. History curriculum which is set in period 9 (1980-present).
In the 1990s and early 2000s, the rise of the computer and the internet fundamentally changed both the nature of America's work and its economy.
As manufacturing was steadily transferred outside the U.S. to places where low wage workers could produce goods cheaply, American workers shifted to knowledge work in the service sector.
This had the effect of increasing American productivity, although increases in wealth were not evenly distributed (far more went to the top 1% of earners).
