In this video Heimler explains what you need to know about Unit 4 Topic 4 (4.4) of the AP European History curriculum, which is all about society and demographics in the 18th century.
During this century, Europe witnessed a population explosion due mostly to a declining death rate thanks to the disappearance of the bubonic plague and increasingly nutritious diets resulting from the Columbian Exchange. The Agricultural Revolution made sure that increased crop yields fed all the new mouths. But that population explosion also resulted in urbanization and the increasing problems of poverty in the cities.
