In this video, Heimler walks you through everything you need to know about APUSH Unit 4 Topic 13 (4.13) which is all about the structure of Southern society in the early republic from 1800-1848. Their economy was almost entirely based on the growth and export of cotton which relied on enslaved labor. In order to consolidate power, Southern leaders during this period relied on the perpetuation of ideologies like white supremacy and the new understanding of slavery as a positive good.
