Dr Rafael Schacter tells the story of The Cable Street Mural, a stunning and monumental piece of public art located in East London, commemorating the Battle of Cable Street (1936), a historic moment when local residents, trade unionists, and anti-fascists came together to block a march by the British Union of Fascists.
Our speaker tells the stories of defiance and unity through the bold colours and dramatic scenes of the mural and its creation, led by artist Dave Binnington, and later completed by a team of artists after facing vandalism and delays.
