as posted by the channelA new petition demanding that Ralo be granted bond while he awaits trial for federal charges of intent to distribute marijuana is gaining ground.
Nearly 11,000 people, at time of publishing, have signed a change.org screed, written and created by Ralo's record label Famerica on July 14. The petition accuses the government of selectively prosecuting the "Lil Cali and Pakistan" rapper (born Terrell Davis) and managing his case with prejudice.
"The government has stated that in their opinion Mr. Davis is a threat to the community," reads the petition. "We as a community love Mr. Davis, and do not agree with the government.The Atlanta rhymer was arrested at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport on April 15 after authorities allegedly discovered him flying with around 440 pounds of marijuana in a private plane's cargo hold. In total, he stands accused of intent to distribute over 900 pounds of weed worth nearly $2 million.
The day after the April arrest, agents representing three different federal agencies staged an early morning raid on an Atlanta apartment complex, owned by Ralo and known locally as "Little Pakistan," and seized, among other items, a flag described by WSB-TV as "Islamic."
The rhymer's manager accused authorities in April of targeting Ralo for recording music about Islam. "He has been targeted because of his songs. Because of his lyrics. Because of his faith," she said.
Ralo, who signed to Gucci Mane's 1017 Eskimo Records last year, is currently being held at DeKalb County Jail. He has pleaded not guilty and twice been denied bond. The second request was denied after prosecutors argued the artist was continuing to manage drug deals from behind bars.
The petition cites Ralo's history of funding less fortunate people's funerals, sponsoring holiday charity events and purchasing children school supplies, as well as his label's employment of dozens of community members, as reasons to grant the rapper bond. His next court date is scheduled on July 30.
