DMX sold more than 74 million albums but his estate is valued at less than $1 million. Despite the late rapper's successful music and movie career, the estate could be worth less than $50,000 according to his daughters.
Five of DMX's nearly two-dozen children filed two separate court documents as they seek to become administrators of their father's estate. The daughters, Sasha Simmons and Jada Oden, filed documents on May 10, while sons Xavier, Tacoma, and Sean Simmons filed papers on May 21. The daughters estimate that their father's estate is worth less than $50,000, while the sons value DMX's estate at under $1 million. Even though DMX release five consecutive number one albums and starred in major studio films, his drug addiction led to arrests, rehabs, and prison time after a 2018 conviction for tax evasion. DMX was also charged with failing to pay $400,000 in child support.
Despite the estate's financial standing, its value is expected to rise due to DMX's deep catalog of hit records. Both lawyers for the sons and daughters have declined to comment on the matter.
DMX suffered a fatal heart attack on April 9, at age 50.
