YouTube Description
as posted by the channelIt’s said the Romans were descended from Mars and Venus, and if Romulus was the aspect of Mars personified, then Rome’s second king Numa was the aspect of Venus. Where Romulus spent his days abducting women and waging war, Numa lived a life of piety and reflection. Romulus created the Roman Senate, Numa created the Roman calendar, the cult of the Vestal Virgins, the office of Pontifex Maximus, the closest thing to a Roman Pope. All the Roman kings are mostly legendary, but it’s interesting to see the Romans themselves acknowledge the paradox of Rome the violent conqueror and Rome the architect of civilization.
