The First Indochina War was fought between 1946 and 1954. When I was on high school I was fascinated by one particular battle that was fought in the inlands of Vietnam. A battle of a once mightly colonial empire against an army of nationalists and communists. The Battle of Điện Biên Phủ.

The French wanted to restore order in the colony after the Second World War was over. In Vietnam they name this battle the French War. Here we call it the First Indochinese War (1946 – 1954). A war the French lost. In this video I explain how the Vietnamese achieved their victory.
